Churches raise $129,733 to fight opioid addiction

The 872 United Methodist congregations of Holston Conference gave $129,733 in a missions offering tagged to help communities in East Tennessee, Southwest Virginia, and North Georgia overcome addiction. The total was announced June 12 during the Holston Annual Conference's meeting in Lake Junaluska, N.C.

Later this year, the funds will be distributed through grants to churches with existing or new ministries that help families or individuals struggling with opioid addiction. For more information, contact the Rev. Michael Sluder at [email protected] or the Rev. Tim Jones at [email protected]

July 18 update: Total raised is now $143,597.
